IIR Gustav Lorentzen Conference in Sydney

The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Airconditioning and Heating (AIRAH) organized the 9th IIR Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Working Fluids, held in Sydney from April 12-14 2010. This was the first time this one of a kind conference held the southern hemisphere.

The Conference focused on the latest research results and advances related to the use of natural refrigerants in refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pump systems and more. The conference brought together the worlds leading professionals in the field and they discussed the latest in research, technologies, case studies, practical applications, the future of natural refrigerants, world’s best practice relating to energy efficiency, reduction of carbon emissions and more. Featured sessions include: heat exchange, sorption cooling, cascade systems, CO2 heat pump, natural refrigerants in supermarkets, industrial refrigeration, mobile air conditioning, desiccant and evaporative cooling, heat recovery and cogeneration, emissions and energy savings, CO2 compressor advancements, ejector systems, expansion devices and slurry technology. There were presented 83 papers, most of them (about 50%) concerned CO2.

eurammon member Prof. Risto Ciconkov informed the participants about natural refrigerants in the developing countries. He emphasized that in almost all projects funded by the Montreal Protocol, HCFC and HFC replacement technologies were used, therefore such implementing practice must be changed. Ciconkov noted that the switch to technologies with natural refrigerants will be a long process and more painful for developing countries because of their weak economies and lower technology level. Without technical and financial support it cannot be expected a success in switching to technologies with natural refrigerants.

The conference Proceedings (on CD-ROM) can be provided from the International Institute of Refrigeration www.iifiir.org.
